Associate Therapist (ASW or AMFT)

Prism Therapy
Remote – California

Compensation: $50 per clinical hour

Grow Your Clinical Identity in a Relationship-Centered Practice

At Prism Therapy, we believe becoming a great therapist is a lifelong process of learning, reflection, and curiosity.

We're looking for associate therapists who are excited to deepen their clinical thinking—not simply accumulate licensure hours. We value clinicians who ask thoughtful questions, seek feedback, remain open to new perspectives, and view supervision as an essential part of becoming the therapist they aspire to be.

Our practice is grounded in psychodynamic, interpersonal, relational, attachment-based, and humanistic approaches. We believe meaningful therapeutic change occurs through authentic human connection, thoughtful case conceptualization, and an ongoing commitment to personal and professional growth.

If you're looking for a place where you'll receive support, mentorship, and opportunities to expand your clinical skills while building a fulfilling private practice caseload, we'd love to hear from you.

Our Values

At Prism Therapy, we believe exceptional therapists are:

  • Lifelong learners who remain curious about themselves, their clients, and the therapeutic process.

  • Committed to thoughtful, ethical, and culturally responsive clinical work.

  • Open to feedback and intentional about integrating supervision into their professional development.

  • Invested in building authentic therapeutic relationships.

  • Humble enough to continue learning throughout their careers.

  • Dedicated to creating affirming spaces where clients of all identities feel understood, respected, and empowered.

Position Overview

This position begins with a minimum commitment of 10 client hours per week, with opportunities to increase your caseload over time as referrals grow and clinical readiness develops. We are looking for clinicians who are interested in building a sustainable private practice caseload and growing alongside the practice.

Because supervision is an integral part of the associate experience, candidates must also commit to participating in all required supervision in accordance with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements. This includes scheduled individual (triadic) supervision as well as group supervision when required, based on weekly clinical hours and applicable licensure regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and biopsychosocial evaluations.

  • Develop accurate diagnoses and individualized treatment plans.

  • Provide ongoing individual psychotherapy services via telehealth.

  • Monitor client progress and revise treatment plans as clinically indicated.

  • Engage in thoughtful case conceptualization using evidence-informed and relationship-centered approaches.

  • Develop and maintain strong therapeutic relationships with clients.

  • Complete clinical documentation, treatment plans, progress notes, and other required records accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Participate actively in individual supervision, consultation, and ongoing professional development.

  • Integrate supervisory feedback into clinical practice and demonstrate continued professional growth.

  • Maintain ethical and professional standards in accordance with BBS regulations.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in maintaining a supportive, respectful, and affirming clinical culture.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a strong interest in psychodynamic, interpersonal, relational, attachment-based, and/or humanistic psychotherapy.

  • Values the therapeutic relationship as a primary instrument of change.

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and builds meaningful rapport with clients.

  • Maintains strong client engagement through thoughtful, high-quality clinical work.

  • Welcomes supervision as an opportunity for reflection, growth, and skill development.

  • Is dependable, organized, and completes documentation in a timely manner.

  • Is committed to cultural humility, lifelong learning, and professional excellence.

We Especially Encourage Applications From Clinicians Who

  • Provide culturally responsive therapy.

  • Offer LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

  • Are bilingual in Spanish or other languages.

  • Have experience working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, immigrant, and other historically marginalized communities.

  • Are passionate about providing relationally oriented psychotherapy.

Qualifications

  • Current ASW or AMFT registration in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another qualifying mental health discipline.

  • Eligible to provide psychotherapy services in California.

  • Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain).

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and organizational skills.

What Supervision Looks Like at Prism Therapy

Supervision at Prism Therapy is intended to be more than a licensure requirement. It is a collaborative space to deepen your clinical thinking, strengthen case conceptualization, explore therapeutic process, and develop confidence in your own clinical voice.

We value curiosity, thoughtful reflection, and open dialogue, and we believe the most meaningful professional growth occurs through strong mentorship, authentic collaboration, and a willingness to continually learn.

What You'll Receive

  • Competitive compensation of $50 per clinical hour

  • A minimum caseload commitment of 10 client hours per week, with opportunities to expand your caseload as the practice grows

  • Individual (triadic) supervision that meets California licensure requirements

  • Group supervision and case consultation provided in accordance with BBS supervision requirements

  • Ongoing clinical mentorship focused on developing your clinical identity—not simply completing licensure hours

  • Consultation centered on case conceptualization, therapeutic relationships, and professional growth

  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform provided

  • Administrative and referral support

  • Flexible scheduling

  • Basic employment benefits

  • A collaborative, affirming, relationship-centered practice culture
